1827
Published by Willis and Rand, the weekly is initially located at today’s 263 Washington Street (then 127 Washington Street). Nathaniel Willis is the first editor. Originally a conservative, Christian magazine aimed at children, it broadens its focus to include the entire family. Contributors include Willa Cather, Jack London, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Mark Twain. The magazine moves to School Street, then Temple Place, then to a new building on Columbus Avenue in 1892.* It merges with American Boy in 1929 and ceases publication in 1941.
